Go bald or blue, make a wish come true

When late March rolls around, you may be seeing a lot more skin around campus.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation's fifth annual Go Blue! Go Bald! campaign hits Fanshawe on March 23. Participants collect pledges, then dye their hair blue (the colour used in many Make-A-Wish campaigns across southwestern Ontario) or shave their head. The goal of the campaign is to raise money to help kids with life-threatening medical conditions fulfill their dreams.

Participants who are looking into a new blue 'do will receive a kit containing Amplified Bleach Kit and Shocking Blue Hair Dye provided by Manic Panic, an "Ask Me About My Blue Hair" button, and pledge sheets. The kits can be picked up in the Fanshawe Student Union Office, SC 2001.

The official head-shaving event takes place in Forwell Hall from 12 to 2 p.m. on March 23.

If bald or blue is a little too extreme for you, there are lots of other ways to participate! Wigs are welcome as well, as is throwing blue-themed events to raise money for Make-A-Wish.

"Last year, Make-A-Wish raised $168,000 across southwestern Ontario, and $1,300 of that came from 10 Fanshawe College participants," said Vanessa Demelo, a Fanshawe student who is completing her co-op term at Make-A - Wish. "Our goal this year is $2,500. The amount of participants is limitless — the more the merrier!"

It's free to sign up, and the sooner you sign up, the more time you have to raise funds for this awesome cause.
