International Week a success

Fanshawe College's International Week was celebrated recently with lot of vivacity and fanfare by students. The Ten Thousand Villages table in H Gallery, where homemade crafts, embroideries and other gift items were displayed and sold, was a huge hit as students were eager to support this wonderful cause. The International Panel for homestay students involving the homestay parents, students and faculty was a very informative session as lot of knowledge on various cultures, traditions and beliefs were discussed and shared by the participants.

The quiz and painting competitions provided an opportunity for students to test their analytical and drawing skills, especially the quiz competition which was a closely fought one. The three international lunch cuisines served in B cafeteria as part of the international week celebrations was sold out every day, especially the Indian and Latin cuisine, which sold out in an hour. The pub night provided an opportunity for the students to relax from their hectic school schedule.

The Canadian Immigration seminar held to provide information to international students on immigration and work permits was conducted in the Alumni Lounge and was a roaring success as many international students participated actively and cleared their doubts from subject matter experts.

Last but by no means least, the Asian New Year dinner was celebrated with lot of splendour and elegance. Students and professional artists from China, Thailand, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and India performed various traditional dance and song numbers. The highlight of the show was the performance by a Korean rock band, which kept the crowd on its feet. Guzhen, (a 2,000 year old traditional Chinese instrument) played by a professional musician was another show-stealer. A variety of food from various Asian cuisines was served to the guests, making it a truly enjoyable experience.

The International Department would like to thank everyone who helped, participated and volunteered for the various activities that took place during International Week and making it a huge success. We look forward to hosting it bigger and better next year.
