Fanshawe goes hog-wild for ribs

London's Ribfest has been a staple of local summer festivals for 25 years. Brian "Turbo" Harness, food services manager for the FSU, is hoping to capture a bit of that popularity in Fanshawe's very own Ribfest.

"We (came up with the idea) because we thought it would be nice to do a Ribfest like we do in the summer, but earlier in the year to get everyone excited about the nice weather," said Harness.

Fanshawe's Ribfest will take place in Forwell Hall on March 21, beginning at 11 a.m. and running until 1 p.m. For just $5, you'll get a savoury third rack of ribs from one vendor, coleslaw and beans. All proceeds will benefit Fanshawe's Sharing Shop.

Four different teams — ribbers from the Out Back Shack, Oasis, Fanshawe's culinary program and Fanshawe alum Chris Meloche — will concoct delicious sauces for the pork ribs, sure to make your taste buds dance.

Two awards will be given to the best-tasting ribs. The Judge's Choice award will come from a panel consisting of Joe Scalia, FSU president; Greg Hessian, the college and student union ombudsman; and Heather Cummings, director of student success for the college. Representatives from London Chef's Association will also be awarding a prize.

Come early and come hungry — supplies are limited, and this promises to be one delicious day.
