Men's volleyball gearing up for tough season

Fanshawe's men's volleyball team has been practicing hard this week to maintain the Falcons' winning tradition.

With the team losing over half of its roster this year and filling it with new faces, they knew they would have to learn how everyone plays and bond as a team. Over the past few weeks, the men have been doing just that; they have been practicing every night, to gear up for the start of the season.

Team members said they are focusing their practices on serving and defensive positions. They all know that they can hit when they get the right set, but sometimes they find themselves out of position and missing some easy balls. But they are finding it easier to trust one another on defense now and are learning each other's strengths on offence.

With the team being a very young one this year, they feel that when they come together completely, they will be a very strong and fast team.

The men headed to the Humber Cup tournament October 28 where they got a good look at the competition for this year and also saw whether all their practice is paying off. They haven't had much ingame experience this year so far and they were very excited to finally see what all the other teams look like.

If the men are willing to work hard enough and come together as a team, the sky's the limit. The Falcons open the regular season with three road games beginning on November 3 at Redeemer, followed by games on November 5 at Humber and November 9 at Sheridan. The Falcons have their home opener on November 11 at 8 p.m. versus Mohawk in J-gym. Support teh men at all the home games and tournaments — check tinyurl.com/mensvball2011 for the full schedule.
