Drunkorexia article stirs discussion

Dear Editor:
As a student at Fanshawe college for many years, this article has struck a nerve.

Who let this writer (Jessica Ireland, who wrote "Drunkorexia: Why a night out could be a warning flag," published in January 16, 2012 issue of Interrobang) write an article that allows and encourages people to not be healthy, work out, manage their calories? Does this author not see the people around campus and the city?

People do not purge on food after drinking because they skipped a meal, they are hungry after dancing and being active and social for four or more hours. Participating in this culture is what is beneficial to our culture.

Someone who goes to the gym, manages their life to look good and spends money properly should be embraced. Buying into the idea that being large or overweight is not okay. The idea that someone shouldn't buy into the idea that for them to work on their body to make it better is absurd.

You should look at what you're suggesting. Unless I have it all wrong, I am disappointed in what you have suggested to the student population that is getting bigger and bigger.
