Half a Dino presents...

The Half a Dino crew have taken over APK Live. Created by venue promoter Matthew Trocchi, he has assembled a team of music lovers around London to get the word out about shows using social media and traditional methods including postering.

In the past, Half a Dino has been responsible for bringing a number of names to London, including Born Ruffians, Dinosaur Bones, Hands and Teeth, Bruce Peninsula, The Darcys, Doldrums and even helped to bring Ghostface Killa to the London Music Hall. Last month the HAD crew held a comedy night at APK Live — something they hope to do again in the future. So far February is shaping up nicely for the HAD crew, with a few shows on the docket for the beginning of the month.

On February 3, Niagara boys Elk will return to the APK Live stage to rock out with their garage rock sound guaranteed to make you dance. Also taking the stage will be Skag Barons, who have earned themselves quality radio time and spots opening for acts like Danko Jones and White Cowbell Oklahoma due to their notable hard rock sound. Opening the night will be Thunder Bay natives and recently signed Poor Young Things (Bumstead Records). Thanks to a recent move to Toronto and tons of raw talent, this is a band that is quickly moving up in the rock and roll scene.

The next night, February 4, will bring Cursed Arrows from Halifax to the Forest City. The duo, signed to Out of Sound Records, will offer their mix of noisy rock and roll to the APK crowd and prove that less is more. Joining them on stage will be local acts I Smell Blood, a drum and bass two-piece featuring some loud sounds, and The Mountains, The Forest, The Earth, with their tribal drums, mellow guitar sounds and roaring bass. It's an early show, with doors at 7 p.m.

Half a Dino is bringing back on of their favourites for a night of dancing with the return of the Montreal psych-pop artist Doldrums. On February 10, he'll be taking the dance floor by storm with Arts and Crafts' TRUST, featuring dreamy synth-pop and members of the Polaris Prize-nominated Austra. Local hero New Zebra Kid will open the night with his own brand of experimental synth-pop and Toronto DJs LOOT will have everyone up and dancing until the APK Live staff kicks them out.

All shows are $5 at the door ($7 after 10 p.m. for Doldrums) and should not be missed. Keep your eyes peeled for more shows from Half a Dino. Sources tell me they have some big shows planned. You can find out about more shows and more about HAD at halfadino.tumblr.com.
