Summer fun with the FSU

Summer's here, and the Fanshawe Student Union has plenty of events planned to make summer 2012 a blast.

On June 6, head to the SUB courtyard outside Forwell Hall between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for a delicious (and free!) Strawberry Social. This is the third time the FSU is holding a Strawberry Social and it's grown in popularity every year. The strawberries are fresh, local, sweet and juicy, the ice cream will cool you down on a sunny June day and the music will lift your spirits — the perfect break from a long day of class. If it's raining, the fun will be taken inside to Forwell Hall.

May the odds be ever in your favour on June 20 with the FSU Summer Games in SUB courtyard. Originally slated to be a fight-to-the-death competition, the games have been changed to be a lot more fun (and more safe) after the original games — including archery, swordplay, boulder tossing and rappelling down T building — were not approved by the College's Health and Safety Committee. “And no one will die now,” added John Young, the FSU's Operations Manager.

Though he wouldn't divulge the games that will be played, Young said that the games are not dependent on athletic ability. “It's about participation, it's about having fun,” he said.

In addition to having a blast playing the games, every team that participates in all five games will receive $25. The team with the most points at the end of the day will receive $200 in total. All teams will be invited back for a free meal and one non-alcoholic beverage at the Out Back Shack after the Games.

Register your team of five Fanshawe students (with valid student numbers, summer students only) for the Summer Games competition at the Biz Booth any time before 2 p.m. on June 20. Teams must check in at Forwell Hall at 4 p.m. on June 20, and the events will run for an hour or a little more.

Be sure to check out the FSU Events page (fsu.ca/events) for more information about trips to Canada's Wonderland, weekly Toonie Tuesday movie specials, children's films and other upcoming summer fun.
