ArteMusea brings art to life

ArteMusea is a festival that raises support and funds for Museum London for their shows, and art pieces. The festival, which began last year, is focused on highlighting local artists' work. It is run by a great group of volunteers who are passionate about art and local artists.

“London has so many fabulous artists and artisans,” said Mary Lake Collins, volunteer committee events chair. “We are very proud to be focusing on them at the festival.” Both ArteMusea events will be held at Museum London. The ArteMusea Festival Art Show and Sale opens this coming Thursday, November 8, from 7 to 9 p.m., with a free preview night party. “We have 102 works of hung art and sculpture from 55 great London and area artists,” Collins explained. “There is a jazz trio playing, lots of appetizers and a cash bar.” The show runs until November 18.

The second event is a Wearable Art Sale held on November 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on November 18 from 12 to 5 p.m. “This features 15 London artisans who design and make wearable art,” Collins said. Anything from purses and clothing to jewellery and hair pins will be sold.

“You will be astounded by the creativity of our area artists, things such as recycled leather purses and belts, real butterfly wing jewellery, fabulous ‘hand-made wisdom wraps' and so much more,” Collins said enthusiastically. “Our motto is, ‘Not all art is for hanging... some needs to be worn!'”

Collins also added that she is excited to see students come out to the events. “I hope to see lots of Fanshawe students at these shows, they are inspirational!” Students are encouraged to take part in the art festivities, as well as to stop by Museum London whenever they can to view the wonderful artwork from local creators.
