Workshop helps students manage mental health

If you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed, or you're dealing with some mental health issues, know you're not alone. Connect for Mental Health is presenting an open workshop, Tools for School, on December 3 to help you cope.

Teaming with the Central Library, Connect for Mental Health is hosting this workshop for the student population of London, with a focus on post-secondary students. The two-hour workshop will discuss issues like depression and anxiety, provide an open dialogue about mental health, and equip students with the necessary coping skills to manage their mental health in school.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a half-hour talk by Registered Nurse Michelle Solomon about mental health statistics in post-secondary students. Next, a panel of students will share their mental health experiences and give advice on how to cope. From 7 to 8 p.m., Ph.D. candidate Lyndsay Evraire will present the “Building Your Mental Health Toolkit,” which will teach students easy exercises to improve and maintain their mental health.

Connect for Mental Health is a local organization that has the goal to “create a supportive atmosphere for people affected by mental illness so that they may thrive and maintain wellness,” according to its website. It is a peer support organization that provides education about mental health topics and outreach to raise awareness about mental health issues in our community.

Tools for School takes place at the Central Library (251 Dundas St.) on December 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. It is free to attend and no registration is required.
