This past year has been great, but unfortunately it has come to an end.

Since the first issue of the 2005 school year in August, I have had the privilege of covering and writing about a series of events that have occurred in the realm of the sports world.

Many of the events I covered took place on the grounds of Fanshawe College. Among the many athletes and teams I covered, I would have to say the most enjoyable group to talk to were the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Champion Women's Soccer team.

All of the athletes on the team were always open for interviews and the coaching staff, led by Eva Havaris, who were very impressive for their first stint as head coaches at the intercollegiate level.

I have seen, covered, and written about many teams over the past few years and the women's soccer team at Fanshawe College definitely stood out in my mind as one that truly exemplified a hardworking, committed, and successful group of athletes.

My time with the Interrobang was made much more pleasurable and fulfilling thanks to the hardworking individuals at the Athletic Department. I want to mention first the student employee Jenna Herdman who did publicity work for the Athletic Department. She was always on top of things and was always sending me updated scores, lists, and gave me one of the best ideas of the year, the Freddie the Falcon graduation article.

Not to be forgotten is Joanne Verbeek and Ernie Durocher, who were always eager to help me out when I needed a good quote or information on a particular story. Also helping me out immensely was the Athletic Director Mike Lindsay, who always made sure I got the inside scoop that I needed for my countless stories on Fanshawe Athletics.

My favourite part of my reporting job with the Interrobang has been able to write this column each week. Being able to write about anything I've wanted regarding sports has been something I've always wanted to do, and I got to fulfill a part of that dream this year.

I have gotten the chance to rant about the teacher's strike, the baseball steroids issue, the “Damn Yankees”, and how female athletes are continuously and unfortunately viewed as sexual objects and not athletes.

I have also gotten the chance to write about a former high school football teammate that made to jump into the National Football League this past season. Although Shaun Suisham's job is likely going to be taken over by Mike Vanderjagt whom the Dallas Cowboy's signed recently, at least Vanderjagt will no longer be missing crucial field goals for my beloved and the future 2007 Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts.

The past eight months have been a great experience for myself and I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know the countless individuals from Fanshawe and the London area. The experience I've gained writing for the Interrobang will be kept with me forever and will hopefully help me land a job in the future.

If all goes well, maybe whoever is reading this article in the Interrobang will be reading my column in the National Post or the Globe and Mail some day.

So farewell Fanshawe College, and go Falcons!
