Don't just sit there, get up and do something

Summer students, welcome to Fanshawe College! This is a great school, and outside of being stuck in classes, it's a lot of fun.

My name is Christine Thomson and I am thrilled to be this year's Fanshawe Student Union President. I am here to do many different things, though one of my biggest responsibilities is to listen to students and advocate/implement on their behalf. And since I only have one year to do it, this is your chance to make your voice heard! And this is leading me into the point of my article.

I am writing this to encourage all of you. Believe me, if there is one person who would win the couch potato award, it's definitely me. Hands down. When I get home from work, I have all my TV programs mapped out and I sit all night and watch. It's almost an addiction. If TV Watchers Anonymous was a group, I'd probably be the boss.

So, back to the point. I am hoping to get all of you off your butts this summer. It's totally easy to sit around, after a “long day at work”. And it's sad when you look back on the day, and honestly you only worked 7 or 8 hours. The sunshine is gorgeous outside, and I want to see you all take advantage.

This summer the Fanshawe Student Union is offering tons of exciting events both indoors and out. We are taking a trip to GT's on the Beach, holding a summer pub, hosting a pool tournament, holding Movies in the Park at Victoria Park, and much, much more.

So make sure to come out to our summer events, and enjoy your time outside of the classroom. The summer only lasts a few months of the year. Plus, I will be doing the best to get outdoors and away from the TV as well (thank GOODNESS 24 is over until Jan!), so make sure you say hi if you see me around.

We try our very best to program for all of students' different tastes and schedules. Is there anything you'd like to see? If so, feel free to write to me and let me know. Because if it can get you away from the TV, then it's pretty much my duty. I hope you all have a great summer semester.
