Summer Employment is a few easy steps away

Are you on vacation and want to earn some much-needed money before coming back to school? If your answer is “yes”, there are many different organizations that can help you find a job.

One of the best sources for any student hunting for a summer job is YOU (Youth Opportunities Unlimited). YOU is a non-profit charitable agency which helps youth in achieving employment success. Their services are available to anyone between the ages of 16 and 25, and can offer assistance with basic needs, literacy issues, academic upgrading, employment preparation skills and work experience.

YOU also offers SJS (Summer Job Service), which posts summer jobs on its website, www.sec.on.ca.

In order to look for a job on the SJS website, first you need to register for the Summer Job Service Program. What you need to do is go to YOU at 141 Dundas Street (The Skills Centre) 2nd floor and mention your interest in being part of the SJS program. You will then fill out an application to which you need to attach your resume and student ID; afterwards you will be able to search for a job on the SJS database.

YOU is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you have any questions call 660-1919 or email sjs@you.on.ca

If you are 25 or older and want help with your resume and/or job search skills, a great place to start is the WIL Employment Connections, which is also located at 141 Dundas St. The program will set you up with a counselor and she/he will determine what courses or information you need. If they are not able to assist you with your concern, they will refer you to someone who can.

The Internet is not only a perfect starting point to find job postings, but it is also a great resource to get information on companies who are hiring or looking for interns.
