Around the Ring: PPV wrestling round-up

Another PPV has come and gone and I have to say that this was probably one of the best ones of the year and surpassed SummerSlam. Let's see what I got right and wrong with my predictions and see if there were any surprises.

Johnny Nitro vs. Jeff Hardy for the Intercontinental Championship — I have to say that this was one hell of a way to start off a PPV. I predicted that Nitro would win with interference from Melina, just like their last Raw match but the action was even better than before with some amazing spots. I almost died when I saw Nitro take a leap from the top rope and almost break his knee when he landed. The ending was disappointing but the match was so good that I can't wait for the WWE to let these two go at it again.

Kane vs. Umaga — The match wasn't anything we haven't seen on Raw before, but it was still decent. I still think that Umaga is going to come out on top tonight (or at least during the duration of this feud) and I'm sticking with it. The match on the following night's Raw was ok too, but I think we're going to get treated to a specialty match to finish this feud.

The Spirit Squad vs. The Highlanders for the WWE Tag Titles — Ok…I was surprised once again to see the male cheerleaders come out on top. Yes, they cheated but the match was decent enough and had the crowd wanting to see a title change. It's coming, but now I have no idea when.

Lita vs. Trish Stratus for the WWE Women's Championship — Trish went out on top like she deserved. Trish finished off Lita (who looked like a sloth during the match — due to her inactiveness) with Bret Hart's Sharpshooter. Thank goodness the strap is off Lita and we'll probably see a women's championship tournament. Thanks for the awesome seven years, Trish. We fans will definitely miss you.

DX vs. The McMahons and The Big Show in a Hell in the Cell — This match was actually pretty damn good. There were some pretty violent spots but some of the most memorable spots that took place in the new, reinforced (now) 20-foot-high cell came from The Big Show and Mr. McMahon's facial expressions. Let's not forget that Mr. McMahon is now part of the “kiss my ass” club thanks to his face being totally shoved into The Big Show's ass crack. Should I feel ashamed that I actually laughed at this? Perhaps, but it was still a good TV moment.

John Cena vs. Edge for the WWE Championship in a TLC match - Let me guess this straight: Edge is one of the most interesting WWE champs in recent times, he has NEVER lost a TLC match, he's in his hometown of Toronto AND THEY STILL LET CENA (WHO IS GETTING HIS ASS BOOED) BEAT EDGE?!?!! This boggles my mind! No, I'm not a Cena hater and the match showed once again that not only could these two work excellent matches, but they also have amazing matches together. I guess they're going to let this feud run until Survivor Series.
