Date Ideas on a Budget

Valentine's Day is fast approaching and you notice that your bank account balance is running dangerously low. Going on a date does not have to be expensive to be a good time. The Interrobang compiled a list of date ideas that are less than $20 per person.

Board Game Night

Whether it be at home or at a café such as The Cardboard Café or Chill Ice Cream parlour, there are many locations for you to have a board game night. Unleash your competitive side with card games, board games and if you're at home, some video games.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing at the Junction is $15 for students with an optional $10 fee for shoe and harness rentals. It is a fun way to get in some exercise and with different difficulty levels offered, makes this date activity perfect for beginners and advanced climbers.

Cook Dinner

Why go to a fancy restaurant when you have your own kitchen? You and your partner can choose a recipe to make off the Internet that matches your cooking skill level and then make it together. A little bit of candlelight and a nice centerpiece on the table also wouldn't hurt anybody.

Paint Night

Paint nights at restaurants can be expensive, so why not make your own paint night? You can buy materials from Dollarama and have fun exercising your artistic skills at your own place. All you need is some newspaper to cover a table, paint, two canvases, paintbrushes and a cup of water to wash your brushes.

Yoga Classes

Yoga is a great way to unwind and what better way to do that than with your date. Yoga shack in London charges $15 for students for a drop-in class and offers classes such as Pilates, and various forms of hot yoga and non-heated yoga. Do not forget a mat, towel, water and clothing you feel comfortable to move around in.

Winter Tubing

Tubing at Boler Mountain is just like riding a rollercoaster in the summer and tobogganing when you were kid. This combination will result in a carefree and fun date without needing the skills required for skiing or snowboarding. Tickets are $18. However, if you choose to go on a Thursday it is $14.

Pottery Painting

For a unique date, check out The Artiscape studio in London. The studio allows customers to paint pottery or glass. Different ceramics such as pots, mugs and figurines are available to paint. Once you are finished painting, the staff then begin firing the object and apply a gloss coating. Your masterpieces will be available for pick-up one to two weeks later. Prices range from $10 to $50 depending on what you choose to decorate.

Ice Skating

Outside the Covent Garden Market and in front of the bandshell at Victoria Park you can use the skating rinks for free; all you need are a pair of skates. Skate rentals are available at Victoria Park if needed for $7 per person.

Bowling Night

Palasad is a good and reasonably priced option if you're looking for a bowling night. Palasad has two locations in London and also has a restaurant section, arcade, billiards, ping pong, laser tag and karaoke depending on the site. Prices for bowling are $10 per person before 5 p.m. and $16 per person after 5 p.m. with shoe rentals included. You have 20 minutes of lane time per person.
