Dressing for fall can be tricky, but with some key pieces on hand, it should be easy to feel stylish and comfy for this new season.

Fall for many, is a cozy time of year. It’s not hot like summer and it’s not freezing like the winter. It’s just right for all the “goldilocks” out there. However, with fall being a transitional season, it can make finding the right outfit a bit more complicated. There are countless ways to style yourself for fall in many different aesthetics. Here are a couple examples of some fall goto items for the season.

A knitted sweater

A knitted sweater is a classic example of a fall outfit. It’s warm, but (depending on the material and type of knit) is still breathable. Most of the time you won’t need to carry a fall jacket with you. Fall tends to be associated with warm colours and tones (red, burgundy, cream, and orange just to name a few). A great cooler toned option is grey. Alternatively, if a sweater isn’t your thing, try getting a cardigan. The thing to keep an eye out for when buying knitted products is to make sure you look into buying a material that isn’t cheap. Cheap material tends to ball up and make the sweater look fuzzy and overall unappealing over a short amount of time.

A Plaid Flannel

Plaid is another staple in fall fashion. It’s quite versatile and is a chic way of dressing up or down. Flannel shirts are very easy to style in different ways and tend to be great for layering. Similarly to the knitted sweater as mentioned above, warm tones tend to be the rage with this fashion piece.

Leather or Faux Leather Jacket

Leather and faux leather jackets have made a comeback in the last couple years. These jackets are a great way to stay warm, but not boiling, while still looking chic. Leather can be very pricey and may not go hand in hand with your moral values. Faux leather is a wonderful option to get the same effect as the real deal and is better for many people and species. Just be careful not to scratch the jacket. If it is made of real leather, be aware of how to properly take care of it.

Boots and/or Booties

Boots and booties can add that extra touch to a look. Knee high boots and boots that go about midcalf, are a classic fall look. Brown and black boots/booties are colours that go with almost every outfit. Booties typically go to the ankle, but depending on the style and colour, may make your legs look shorter. If you are planning on getting boots/booties with a heel, go for a chunky heel.

Denim

Over the past year, the fashion industry has really brought denim back to life. Not that jeans have really gone out of style, but shredded or ripped jeans have really come into the forefront. Jeans come in all different styles such as skinny to bell bottom (which has slowly been back on the rise). We’ve also seen an influx of denim jackets and tops. Denim jackets are also great to accessorize with embroidery, patches and buttons. Denim adds a bit more edge to almost any look.

Fitted Trench Coats

A fitted trench coat although for cooler days, are great additions to anyone’s fall wardrobe. They add a classy touch to pretty much every outfit. They also give you more leeway in terms of colour choices, from a vibrant red to a classic black. The thing to keep in mind when trying on trench coats is making sure the length and the flare out from the lower portion suits your desired look.
