Around the Ring: Weekly wrestling review

TNA's Bound For Glory PPV was last Sunday and I have to say that it was one of the best PPVs I've seen ever. The performers, the action and the whole VIBE of the show was spot on.

This PPV was a milestone for many reasons. First, the PPV was the first ever that wasn't being brought to us from the usual TNA studio; this one was live from Detroit. Secondly, there were three title changes (with Sting coming out on top to win the NWA World Championship). Last, but not least, was the debut of Kurt Angle on TNA PPV! Angle got in Samoa Joe's face (which led to security breaking them up) and then was the special enforcer in the World Title match. So far Angle has pissed off Samoa Joe and Jeff Jarrett so it's nice to see that they already have ideas on where to take Angle in the storylines.

The steel cage match featuring LAX vs. Chris Daniels and AJ Styles was breathtaking. There were so many good spots and it really made me open my eyes to the LAX, who ended up becoming the new TNA Tag Champs.

The X division matches were amazing and so was the Eight Mile Street Fight where Rhino took a beating at the hands of Christian. I wouldn't have thought that TNA would have had Rhino lose in his hometown but it sure made the match exciting right until the end. I just can't say enough good things about TNA and this PPV. I can't wait for primetime in three weeks.

Speaking of primetime, the WWE was trying to get people suckered in this week by announcing their milestone of 700 episodes of Raw. Congrats on that and here's to 700 more! Actually, I think they really only mentioned it once during the broadcast because a) they couldn't stop talking about or trying to promote that Kevin Federline guy's CD or b) they couldn't take John Cena, Big Show and Booker T (I refuse to call him King Booker anymore) off of TV. I hope we don't see “K-Fed” again and I have to say the best laugh of the night came when Cena said to Booker something along the lines of “you call that man's CD a treasure? You've lost all status as a black man.” Then, out of nowhere, Ron Simmons (formerly the APA's Farooq), came out, grabbed the mic and just said “DAMN” and walked away. Aww…I miss Farooq sometimes, APA Farooq, that is.

The rest of the show was solid but Raw and Smackdown are REALLY pressing the storylines that THEY want the people to vote for regarding their Cyber Sunday PPV. The Umaga match choices (Kane, Benoit and Sandman) all seem out of place now but I hope you all vote for Sandman to get extreme and the whole “what legend will team with Ric Flair” match seems unappealing considering that no matter who you vote for Flair and “partner” will win sending the Spirit Squad into even more chaos and disorganization.

Once again, I didn't really touch on Smackdown because last week's episode (as of the time of writing this) wasn't too eventful except for Rey Mysterio being forced to quit at the hands of Chavo Guerrero. We all know this is because Rey needs knee surgery and he'll be back in a couple of months.
