Athlete profiles of the week

The volleyball season is in full swing, so this week we took the opportunity to feature two volleyball players that have run the Falcon gauntlet before and have come back for more!

Katie Seys
Position: Middle
Program: Pre-Health Science
Hometown: London, ON
High School: Oakridge S.S.
Accomplishments: AAAA at OFSAA in high school, OCAA Rookie of the Year 2005-06, First Team All Star, and MVP for the Fanshawe team last year.
In her Words: “This is my eighth year playing volleyball and my second year at Fanshawe. It is also my sixth year playing for Head Coach, Lloyd Rumble because he was the coach for my Forest City Club team throughout high school.

I like that we take a competitive approach and always set high goals for the team. I also like how both the men's and women's teams are really close so it is a second family for those who are from out of town. The staff at the athletic desk are awesome and we love our Adidas gear that Rob Hannivan puts so much time into designing and organizing!

I was born and raised in London, so it's nice that my family is here. I love that we have a bunch of good attractions like the Western Fair, the JLC and who doesn't love Storybook Gardens for a little childhood fun?

I think that the women's team we have right now will go on to be very successful, the amount of existing talent and progress we have achieved in such a short period of time is really impressive. I know everyone is anticipating the rest of the season to live up to our immense potential.”

Jonathan Hillis
Position: Left Side
Program: International Business Management
Hometown: St. George, ON
High School: Paris District H.S.
Accomplishments: Male Athlete of the Year for five years running in High School, OCAA Rookie of the Year award 2005-06.
In his Words: “I have been playing volleyball for eight years, this is my third year playing Fanshawe college volleyball, I red-shirted out west at the University of Saskatchewan my first year out of high school. I see myself coaching volleyball in the future, and if by some amazing feat I become good at volleyball I would love to tryout for a European pro team.

What I love about the Fanshawe program is the fact that the men's and women's volleyball programs are very close and that we travel a lot together. The coaching and coordinating staff is great and has helped Fanshawe Volleyball be among the top teams in the province since its reinstatement.

I think our men's volleyball team has a great shot at medaling at provincials this year. We have a great group of guys that have really come together since the start of the year and have the hard work and determination to improve on our last year's provincial performance.”
