Around the Ring: Good week in the wrestling ring

Holy crap was it a good week for wrestling (and remember folks, this is being written before the Survivor Series PPV). Let's take a look at the action!

On the TNA PPV, some major things happened. First off, Abyss is now the NWA World Champion. The kicker here is that Abyss never pinned Sting but was disqualified for consistently putting the beats to Abyss outside the ring. It was as if Sting went ECW. The ref told Sting to stop on many occasions before ringing the bell and handing the belt over to the monster, Abyss. Neat stuff.

The other major event was the first official defeat of Samoa Joe by the hands of Kurt Angle. I don't know how much dough Samoa Joe got from the TNA management but it must have been a lot because for a man with such integrity, to be handed your first loss from a newcomer, although it is Kurt Angle, if Joe did it without an extra cash incentive and took one for the company, and showed his team player skills, bravo on that action! We'll be seeing these two hook up pretty soon once again.

Just before the TNA PPV (on their prime time debut), the former James Gang (or the WWE's former New Age Outlaws, who were also a part of the old version of DX), declared themselves the VKM. Oh my…the VKM is also similar to Vincent Kennedy McMahon and they've declared war on the WWE and ol' Vince himself. I can't WAIT to see if TNAs WWE insults and potential “invasion” has the same impact (pardon the pun) as the WCW/WWE(F) rivalry.

On Raw last Monday, the show started off really well, although it did get a little predictable. It was nice to see all the teams come out and shoot on each other. I would have liked to have seen some of the secondary team members talk and do some dissin' instead of just the team captains running their mouths (although Kenny's was quite good).

Lita's spiel, after she unfortunately botched a spot where she sent her knee into Mickie James' face, was excellent. I've never heard her so natural in so many years. She really meant what she said on the mic about her paving just as much of a path as Trish Stratus and that there really wouldn't be a Mickie James or Trish without how she opened the doors for many women in the WWE. The rumours (and I called it here last week) are true and the Survivor Series will be her last match. I'll be anxious to see if she goes out the same way as Trish.

On Smackdown, The Boogeyman is making his presence felt once again even though both his and the Miz's wrestling abilities still blow. That's really all I have to say about Smackdown because, as usual, I'll say that it's not the best show on TV. I hope TNA has some gain on them in primetime because it'll really make the WWE focus on all their shows once again.
