I Hate Sally endorse ‘freaks'

I Hate Sally can only mean it sucks if your name is Sally. If you are into worthwhile lyrics with a distinct punk/metal sound, there is nothing to hate about this band.

I Hate Sally have quickly risen to the top of the underground metal music scene since forming in 2003, with Dee Prescott doing vocals, Marc Garniss tearing it up on guitar, Mark Mcgee hammering on the drums and Dan Vokey rocking out on bass. As a group they bring together an in-your-face heavy metal/punk sound the likes of Bad Religion, Shallow North Dakota, L7 and Burnt by the Sun. If you've never heard of any of these bands then another example of this bands insane performance, incredible speed and ferocity can be compared to a ferret on mescaline!

I Hate Sally also have the tendency to break random stuff on and off stage as well, which really adds a bit of edge to their already raw performance. A list of things the band has broken, which Garniss rhymed off included, an eel tank that was about the size of a small car, Mcgee's drum kit, tables, chairs, some kid's glasses and a cactus.

“We kinda don't mean to break shit we just freak out a lot when we play and climb on stuff, which breaks sometimes,” said Garniss.

The merciless drive to change the current music scene has also been the reason for their success.

“Heavy music is so watered down, there aren't enough freaks playing anymore,” added Garniss. “Well, there are still freaks, but there are so many ‘safe' bands that just aim to please and not offend anyone that they all become generic and play very forgettable shit.” Obviously loathing the typical “aim to please,” I Hate Sally's approach has earned them a spot on Underground Operations label among well-known bands such as Protest the Hero and Hostage Life. At the same time Underground Operations picked them up, last October, I Hate Sally also released their very first full-length album “Don't Worry Lady” and a rather unique music video to go along with it, which can be seen online.

Aside from being on a great Canadian Indy label, I Hate Sally has opened up for other great acts such as Propagandhi, Alexisonfire and Raised Fist, all of which has earned the band a lot of bragging rights.

I Hate Sally hit the road again on January 9 to begin a three week tour that stretches from here in Ontario all the way to the far reaches of the East Coast, with a show every night until the end of the tour. Fortunately, I Hate Sally will also be hitting London and you can catch them at the Salt Lounge on January 26 with the Cancer Bats.

If you can't make it out to the show but still want to check out the band they can be found on Myspace.com, of course, or at www.ihatesally.com where you can check out plenty of audio, video and pictures.
