Fashion Fashionista: Keep attire weather appropriate

The unpredictable temperatures that we are facing this year make it hard to decide what to wear on a daily basis. One day the city is pummeled with snow, and the next people are walking around in shorts and a t-shirt in plus 15-degree weather. This erratic temperature change makes it difficult to prepare for such extremes.

As global warming continues to change our environment, we have to prepare for the worst and best case scenarios.

A great way to start is by layering your clothing. Not only is layering in right now, but it will help you to control your own personal body temperature. You can strip as desired, or bundle up if the winds and minus temps start to pick up again.

Needless to say, we have been extremely ‘lucky' (if you want to call global warming luck) with the mild days and nights we have been experiencing in South Western Ontario. However, for the benefit of your own health, your best bet is to over-dress and not catch a cold. Leaving areas open and prone to a cold draft is a great way to embrace sickness.

Footwear is also an important element in keeping you warm all over. The other day I saw a guy walking through Victoria Park in flip-flops — In January! The weather outside was nice, but not nearly that nice. However people will hold onto the illusion of great weather, even if we're not quite at that time of year yet.

Clearly the weather patterns are changing, and our view of winter, spring, summer and fall is altering slowly year by year. The extreme and often unpredictable hot and cold temps make it difficult to know just how to prepare. So to insure that you always dress appropriate, wear lots of layers, seasonal footwear, and expect the unexpected.
