Victor Garber to receive Lifetime Achievement Award
The London-born Titanic actor will receive the FCFF’s first Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s film festival.
London-born Hollywood star Victor Garber is to receive an honourary award at home. The Forest City Film Festival (FCFF) will be honouring the legendary London-born actor with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Entertainment later this fall. Garber will be the first to receive this award, the first of its kind, from the FCFF.
Garber was born and raised in London where he attended elementary school at Ryerson Public Elementary School then attended Central Secondary School for high school. Garber got his start in acting by joining the children’s programming at the Grand Theatre located on Richmond St. and by age 16, Garber had joined a summer training program at the University of Toronto’s Hart House.
A singer as well, Garber was a member of the Toronto based pop-vocal quartet called The Sugar Shoppe.
Garber had his breakthrough into Hollywood with his first ever role as Jesus Christ in Godspell (1973) which then launched him into stardom. He has gone on to star in major blockbuster titles like James Cameron’s Titanic (1997) and Legally Blonde (2001).
Garber’s work spans across all mediums of entertainment, where he also played roles in notable sitcoms like Will and Grace, Murdoch Mysteries, and Suits. He currently stars in Family Law.
The FCFF will be honouring Garber with an award ceremony and grand induction following a gala. In addition, three of Garber’s most iconic works will be showcased, with a Q and A session about his films to follow with the London native.
The event is slated for Oct. 26 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in downtown London.
