Latest Raw program fails to hype Wrestlemania

As of the time of writing this, Wrestlemania hasn't happened, my predictions were in the last issue but the Raw show is finished while the ECW/Smackdown tapings are currently happening. As you can tell, this edition will not be as robust as others since most of this information will be worth nothing after Wrestlemania happens.

Vince McMahon touted that this Raw before WM23 would be Raw's biggest ever. Holy letdown, Batman! We got a No Way Out main event repeat that had the ending that the Backlast PPV SHOULD have had. Undertaker left Batista in the ring to rot and HBK turned on Cena (who, I might add, was getting booed pretty heavily by the fans). Why didn't the WWE do this earlier and use THIS to fuel the “Road to Wrestlemania.”

The WWE also teased the WM matches on this program as well. The ladder in the back “Cutting Edge” segment was good, but it was just to get TV time for all the competitors. I'm not going to mention the horrible CM Punk match before hand. Kane and The Great Kahli showed me once again how slow and painful their “match” was going to be while the three on three Diva match once again showed that Victoria (and an absent Mickie James) are the only two women who can wrestle a decent match.

I feel bad for Flair, Carlito, Benjamin, Haas, Helms and others who have had stellar years, worked their butts off for the company but don't get a place on the card. Hopefully there will be a surprise match-up or two. Did I mention how pissed I am that we don't get an IC or Tag Team belt match on this card?

On the other side of the televised wrestling world, TNA had a pretty good showing last week. I think that their next PPV, where all the matches take place in a steel cage, is looking quite good. I've never heard of an electrified cage match, but I guess LAX and Team 3-D are going to attempt it.

James Mitchell comes into the Impact Zone with someone who is supposed to be Abyss' mother? When you think that the Sting/Abyss storyline is over or at least coming to an end, something else comes up. I am so confused with a storyline that has twists and turns that I just don't know how to handle it. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I think that Team Angle vs. Team Cage will be a pretty cool spin. It'll be like a classic Survivor Series match that meets the action that can only be found in a steel cage. From my recollection and 20 plus years of watching the SS, I can't remember the WWE attempting this.

I'll be here next week to give my two cents, on Wrestlemania 23.
