Around the Ring: McMahon gets Trumped

Well, another year and another Wrestlemania has come and gone and I have to say that I'm really pleased overall with the event. Most of the matches were really good and the pacing of the event was satisfactory. I'll make a brief comment on every match (in the order my preview was in) and take a look to see if my predictions and Kyle Thibeault's predictions came true.

Chris Beniot (c) vs. MVP for the US Championship

I have to say that this was a good technical match. I was really impressed with MVP's performance because I don't watch enough Smackdown (due to JBL) to really get a feel for the guy. Benoit shined like usual and came out as the winner. Predictions: Peter - MVP, Kyle - MVP.

Kane vs. The Great Khali

You knew that you weren't going to get too much out of this match and it showed. The two tried their best but when Khali can't wrestle, there's only so much Kane can do. The abrupt ending where Kahli slammed Kane for the pin threw me right off. Predictions: Peter - Kane, Kyle - Kane.

Melina (c) vs. Ashley for the WWE Woman's Championship

Speaking of knowing exactly what you're getting, the entrances for this match lasted almost as long as the match itself. Ashley proved once again that she has a long way to go before she can even be considered to wear the gold. Mickie James and Victoria were probably pissed off at ringside. Predictions: Peter - Melina, Kyle - Ashley.

ECW Originals vs. The New Breed

This match had some great back and forth action, but it still wasn't ECW quality. Yes, Sabu and RVD did a few cool things, but there wasn't any blood! There wasn't any crazy bump. There was no “Oh my God!” moment. At least it was entertaining and also let the new breed show why they are a force to be reckoned with. Predictions: Peter - Originals, Kyle - Originals.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match

I think everyone was surprised with this match. First of all, it was surprising that the match started the event (which drained the crowd) and it was also surprising how some superstars just seemed to drop out of the match. Jeff Hardy's jump onto Edge was one of the coolest spots of the night and I'll be amazed if Edge didn't break a rib. In the end, Mr. Kennedy came out on top. I really wish that he cashed it in - that would have caused some controversy. Predictions: Peter - Mr. Kennedy, Kyle - Edge.

Battle of the Billionaires - Lashley w/Donald Trump vs. Umaga w/Vince McMahon

This match wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Lashley and Umaga both put on a solid match and the outside interference from Vince, Shane and Trump made the match really fun. With Lashley pinning Umaga, the stage was set for Vince to get his head shaved bald and it was quite an event. I don't know if I'll ever get used to Vince being bald. Predictions: Peter - Lashley, Kyle - Lashley.

Batista (c) vs. The Undertaker - World Heavyweight Championship

Batista made the haters shut up with his performance during this match and the Undertaker can get mad props as well. This back and forth match-up finished perfectly and the two men brought the house down. I can't wait for the rematch and I'll pay the PPV money to see it. In the end, Undertaker walked out of WM with the belt and a 15-0 streak. Predictions: Peter - Undertaker, Kyle - Undertaker.

John Cena (c) vs. HBK for the WWE Title

Cena may have had a lot of boos during the match, but he has the last laugh with getting HBK to tap out in the middle of the ring at the biggest show of the year. That's three Wrestlemania's that Cena has killed at and as far as I'm concerned, this guy has proved that he deserves that belt and the money he's making. HBK had an excellent outing (as usual) and I'm sure he'll get another shot at the belt by the next PPV. Predictions: Peter - Cena, Kyle - HBK.
