Around the Ring: WWE grooming Cena to be unstoppable

Well, it's been an interesting time for the WWE since the last time I wrote. Mr. McMahon has won and lost the ECW championship, while allowing Bobby Lashley to grow in popularity. Both HBK and RVD are out indefinitely. HBK is out due to possible career ending knee surgery, hence the serious concussion angle, while RVD is supposedly letting his contract run out (with rumours of him jumping ship to TNA). And let's not forget: John Cena is still the WWE champion.

Let's touch on that last point for a minute. John Cena has gone through Umaga with little problem (after the WWE building him up to be unstoppable) and the same goes with Cena's feud with The Great Khali. Can someone tell me how we're supposed to get sucked into the storyline here? Umaga was unstoppable to everyone else in the WWE including John Cena until a Pay Per View event. Umaga then gets sent over to ECW to take out Lashley and that brings The Great Khali to Raw to feud with Cena. Khali destroys everyone in his path, including Cena (on Raw and Saturday Night's Main Event). The PPVs come around and Cena has no trouble overcoming Khali. Are we now supposed to believe that Khali and Umaga are that unstoppable anymore? How are we going to buy a legit Cena loss now?

I guess the answer in the last paragraph may come in the form of the lottery draft (which will probably just have taken place by the time you read this). I really have no idea what they're going to do with this draft. We have superstars like HBK, RVD, The Undertaker, Mr. Kennedy, HHH and King Booker out with injuries. Will they be mentioned in the draft? Will Chris Benoit jump ship to Raw to get another shot at the WWE title (a good face vs. face feud is long overdue). Will a huge name be sent over to ECW to boost ratings? I hope that doesn't happen considering us Canadian fans don't get ECW TV until 12 am on Saturday mornings (or Friday nights - depending how you look at it). I just hope this benefits the company because I've actually been enjoying both shows for the past few months (although the Cena thing is still boggling).

As for TNA, Impact is still a solid show, but the last few PPVs that I've ordered haven't been as stellar as they've been in the past. On TV, Jeff Jarrett's return as a face is boring, Abyss gone from TV after a brutal beating is hurting them and TNA is doing more and more angles (not Kurt Angle) work instead of letting the superstars show off what they can do in the ring.

I think that TNA Slammiversary should be a stellar card with the King of the Mountain match pitting (at this time) Angle, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles (and without a doubt, Christian). Eric Young vs. Robert Roode should hopefully be an excellent match and put an end to this half year feud while Team 3D vs. The (newly reformed) Steiner Brothers should be a wrestling fan's dream match-up if Scott Steiner recovers in time from emergency surgery on his throat after having trouble breathing after a recent match in Puerto Rico.
