Fun and Fitness: The price to pay to work on your fitness

It's the beginning of a new school year and many of you have questions about the Fanshawe College Community Fitness Centre rates. For those reading this issue of the Interrobang, I hope all your questions may be covered and resolved in this week's column.

Student Fitness Centre memberships run $135.68 (taxes included) a semester. This is based on $32/month + g.s.t. We don't offer single month memberships; therefore a one semester membership is the shortest duration you'll be able to sign up for. Keep in mind that if you're a full time police foundation, fitness and health promotion or paramedic student, you've already paid the membership fee in your tuition. If you're a law and security student, you can get a subsidized rate of $75.79. The $135.68 price tag applies to all other full-time students.

There are a couple of other important exceptions that need to be addressed. If you're a member of a varsity team, you can get the athletic subsidized rate of $35.79. Final rosters take time to be finalized due to tryouts and cuts. If you're confident you're going to make one of the Fanshawe teams, hold off on getting your membership. Once the roster is finalized, you will than qualify for this rate. Another exception is with regards to co-op, apprentice and other students alike. Once you have verification for proof of your school status, you can sign up based on the number of months of your program duration.

Alumni can also get a membership at the $32/month rate upon signing up for a year. For the Fanshawe faculty reading this column, don't worry as I haven't forgotten about you guys. Faculty can sign up for the $32/month rate as well upon signing an eight or twelve month contract.

That pretty much covers all the bases in terms of student, staff, and alumni rates. In case any of you didn't know, we at Fitness 101 are just as community driven and student focused as the rest of the Fanshawe departments. So if you have a parent, relative, or friend who is not a student, inform them that they can contact us for more information on community memberships. They may even qualify for one of our cooperate discounts. For any other questions, you know where to find me for the answers.
