F.A.T.S. Knows!

Staying interest-free on your OSAP loan

I'm getting a new Student Loan.
Once your completed OSAP Confirmation of Enrolment form is processed by the Financial Aid Office, OSAP will electronically transfer the information to the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) and/or your previous lender(s) that you are in school full-time.

I have a previous Student Loan and I'm staying in school full-time.
You must ensure your previous loan(s) are placed in interest-free status. Keeping this interest-free status means that:
- You don't have to repay the loan while you are in school
- The Government of Canada and/or the Province of Ontario will continue to pay the interest on your loan.

F.A.T.SIf you don't keep your loans in interest-free status, you must start repaying your loan(s) within six months of the end of your last study period.

You must provide the Financial Aid Office with a completed Continuation of Interest-Free Status/Confirmation of Enrolment (Schedule 2). You must submit this completed form to the Financial Aid Office while you are attending school on a full-time basis or on a recognized co-op work term. The information will be sent electronically by the Financial Aid Office to OSAP and then to your lender and/or the NSLSC by OSAP. This form is available for printing at the OSAP website - http://osap.gov.on.ca. Look under OSAP Forms.

OSAP will not advance your study period end date if you ask for this after you stop being a full-time student. If you do not complete a Continuation of Interest-Free Status/Confirmation of Enrolment (Schedule 2) while you are a full-time student, you have two choices: you can make payment arrangements with the NSLSC or previous lender, or you can apply for Interest Relief.

Remember, you are responsible to promptly notify the Financial Aid Office in writing of changes to the income or assets reported by you (or your spouse or parent(s)), or of changes to your address and/or financial, academic, family and/or study period status or if any other information that you have provided changes.

If you change your course load or your program, drop courses, or withdraw from your program, it will affect your OSAP eligibility! Talk to the Financial Aid Office, E2020, to find out how your OSAP might change, before you change your courses and program.

Important Dates

Now you've caught your breath and are settling into a routine, you might want to change your courses, your program, or the number of courses you take. Time is running out!

September 17 is the last date you can withdraw (for most programs) from Fanshawe without having to pay ALL your fees for the Fall 2007 term. If you withdraw after September 17, ALL your fees are due, even if you aren't going to class!

September 17 is also the last date to register in most programs or courses, to change from full-time to part-time or back again, to drop or add courses, or to get credit for courses you took at other schools. Some programs or courses have earlier dates. Check your student verification form for more details, or ask your academic office.

Be careful!! Dropping courses, changing your status to full-time, changing your program — they will all affect your OSAP! If you are applying for OSAP, see the Financial Aid Office before you make any decisions that might cost you money.

September 24 — Returning students, this is the last date to appeal a grade, an academic decision, or the paying of your fees from Summer 2007.

September 28 — This is the due date for fees if you are on the payment plan. Your next payment plan due date will be October 28. You can pay the balance of your fees before then if you like.
