It's all about the Benjamins

It's the beginning of a new school year and lots of students are already begging for it, they need it. Students need someone to give it to them but they are too nervous to ask for it. Well don't worry Fanshawe, because I'm the guy to give it you… MONEY that is, or at least advice on how to get some money.

At some point during this year many students will have an empty bank account and not know what to do. Fortunately you chose Fanshawe College, which has numerous bursaries and awards available to all students. For those students worried about cash flow check out all of your funding options at: www.fanshawec.ca/awards.

In addition, I personally help with the Fanshawe College Student Assistance Bursary, which is provided by the College to help out any student in financial need. You can find this bursary at: www.fsu.on.ca/content.asp?id=243.

Some of you might also be looking for a job on campus that pays great and is very convenient when you can work between classes. Well, Fanshawe offers many jobs to student on campus; you can find them at http://www.fanshawec.ca/careers/

If there comes a point in the school year when you have no money for food or clothing you should stop by The Sharing Shop (B1050), an excellent student service which provides FREE food, clothes and even text books.

The best way to ensure that you don't get into a situation where you need money is to spend your money properly over this year.

Here are a few great money saving tips:
- Make coffee at home. We all love Tim Horton's, but you can save a pile of money by making it at home.
- Buy cheap beer. I love Corona, but it doesn't fit my budget
- Pick-up free condoms at the health clinic. They may be red, but they still get the job done!
- Learn to cook! It took me a year to learn how to make rice, but it taste way better than most food on campus (except Oasis, Falcon's Nest and the Out Back Shack)
- Need to look good for an interview? Go to Value Village you can get a suit for under $20!
- Ladies, save money at the bar by getting guys to buy you drinks
- Guys, save money at the bar by getting old ladies to buy you drinks

The Fanshawe Student Union is here to help and if you have any problems we'll be happy to help. Have a fun and financially secure year Fanshawe.
