Pete's Links: Classic gaming online

It's time again to surf like you've never surfed before, as I take you around the interweb to find some cool crap! I know I focused on gaming last issue, but just after submitting the article, I came across some more neat game-focused sites that I just have to share because I'm really excited about them.

SCUMM
http://www.scummvm.org/
The best way to sum up this site and the program it provides is to take a direct quote from the site itself: “ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the game, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!” What does this mean for you as a gamer? Well, if you are an old school gamer and remember the old games like “Sam and Max Hit the Road,” “Maniac Mansion,” “Day of the Tenticle” or “Escape from Monkey Island,” then you've probably stopped reading ...about now….and gone to check this software out so you can play (cough) your copy again. If you haven't tried these old schoolers out, now is the time. Yes, you do point and click with these types of games, but the writing and animations are just awesome. You have to do some really hard thinking in order to solve the puzzles and problems in these games as well. There is also a way of being able to bring this software and the games to your Nintendo DS. If it's too complicated for you, keep your fingers crossed that perhaps LucasArts will port some of these classics over to the DS for a bargain price.

Anonymous Game Developers Interactive

On this site, you can (thanks to the programmers) download and play the entire old school King's Quest 1 and 2. These games go even further back than the games I mentioned above but they are a crucial part of gaming history. Go to this site, read up on the games and sample them. They are super hard, though.

Game Videos

If you want the latest trailers for gaming (even in HD), look no further. This is your one stop for gaming previews, trailers, in game clips, review shows and parodies. Many gaming sites on the net link directly to here and if you're a gamer, you should have it bookmarked.
