Volleyball teams bring home two bronze in first tournament

With balls flying all over, the 2005-2006 volleyball season has started up.
The Fanshawe College Kick-Off tournament was held on October 1st and October 2nd, an event where the Fanshawe Falcons captured two bronze medals for their efforts.

The Falcon women defeated the defending OCAA champion Cambrian Golden Shield in straight sets (26-24, 25-10) giving them the bronze medal. Stephanie Femia was selected as Fanshawe' representative for the tournament All-star team.

Fanshawe's men's team captured the bronze medal as well, after defeating Cambrian's men's squad in straight sets (25-20, 26-24). Selected to men's' tournament All-star team was Pawal Kucharski.

Before the tournament took place Vaughan Peckham was excited about the opportunity for Fanshawe to showcase this event.

“Fanshawe is looking forward to hosting some of the strongest volleyball programs in the OCAA,” said Peckham. “Our expectations are for high quality, intensive volleyball competition in both the men's and women's sport.”

Although Fanshawe did not walk away with the men or women's title, top-notch varsity volleyball was still displayed throughout the weekend event.

Earning the women's title was Seneca College. Seneca defeated Mohawk in the final 2-0 (25-17, 25-18) and were led by tournament MVP Melissa Morden and All-star May Chiu.
