2007/2008 SAC elected
You cast your ballots in the Student Administrative Council (SAC) election last week and the race was tight in some divisions.
After the first day of voting on October 10, the Health Sciences Division was at a dead heat between Julia Petrakis and Lauren Walton, but Matteo Ciccone came from behind on the second day of voting and won with just one vote ahead of Petrakis.
The Human Services Division race was also close between Katie Abbott and veteran SAC member Allison Parke-Rye. Parke-Rye took the seat on the council with 29 votes, just two ahead of Abbott.
Meanwhile, Tom Copping and Michail Bantseev, who were vying for the Building Tech & Manufacturing seat and in the end Copping won by just one vote.
In total, only 518 full-time students voted for their specific division in the four designated polling station throughout campus, while last year the turn out was counted at 708 in total.
The winners of this year's SAC election will represent the ten scholastic Divisions within Fanshawe; Tourism & Hospitality, Contemporary Media. Business Management, Language & Liberal Arts, Health Sciences, Human Services, Building Tech & Manufacturing Sciences, Art & Design and Information Technology. They will be responsible for reporting any problems or concerns within the departments and bringing them forward at the bi-weekly meetings.
Other winners included Jason Hodgson for Tourism & Hospitality, Nick Austin for Contemporary Media, Justin Guerin for Business Management, Laney Armstrong for Language & Liberal Arts and Ashya Dawood for Art & Design. Voters in the Information Technology Division also elected Anthony Rodrigues, who was running uncontested.
No candidates ran in the Motive Power Division. Interested students can contact FSU President Travis Mazereeuw, fsupres@fanshawec.ca.
