Instant replay long overdue for MLB

As a sports junkie, the end of October and the beginning of November is my favourite time of the year. Sure the final two weeks of December are great, however the time leading up to those days is very stressful. Summer is also a good time for a sport fanatic, but there is nothing too special going on. So that leaves the last week of October and the beginning of November.

Any sport fan loves this time. There is regular season NFL, NHL, NBA and the World Series. Now here is my rant for this week: Why don't we have video replay in baseball?

I can understand why we don't have them in basketball. You have three different refs watching the play at one time and it's rare to see a buzzer beater during a playoff or championship series. It has happened, just not a lot. But baseball; come on, we need it. Just take a look at the two teams that are playing for the World Series. Neither of them should be there!!!!

The Boston Red Sox are there because the umpire called Kenny Lofton “out” at second base during game seven, when he was safe. Replay shows he was safe. Hell, even my friend Lincoln said he was safe, and he never says anything bad about his team. The Cleveland Indians would have at least tied the game during that inning and possibly taken the lead. The Indians also have to blame themselves, especially the third base coach, for holding up Lofton on a potential game tying hit. Dammit, it's Manny Ramirez in the field. No way in hell would he have thrown Lofton out. Grow some balls!!! You're down by one, and you're going to let a possible double play come up with runners on first and third. If we had video review, Lofton would have been safe and it might have been the Indians in the finals.

Do I even need to remind you why the Colorado Rockies shouldn't be in the big show? Matt Holliday didn't touch home plate in the one game playoff versus San Diego. I feel sorry for the San Diego Padres. The home plate umpire made a bad call and now the Rockies might win the World Series, which sucks.

The Rockies have had an amazing ride and got lucky along the way, but they don't deserve to be there. Hell, we don't even know who does because that was the game winning run and who knows what would have happened in the 14th inning?

Now a lot of you are saying the game of baseball is too slow as it is, and yes, you're right. It takes too long to play and I understand that video replay would slow the game down. Well, I don't want to slow the game down that much at all. I would only allow challenges on tag outs. No challenges on strikes or balls. That would just get too damn annoying. Everyone would be challenging and the umpires would lose all power over the game. What I would like to see is if they allowed each team one challenge per night. If you challenge and you're right, give yourself a pat on the back. However, if you're wrong you had better open up your wallet and pay a hefty fine of $100,000. This would stop managers from challenging in a game that is already over. I.E 10-2. Oh, also make sure the manager gets tossed for the rest of the game. I would also like to see the league make a rule that if you get tossed out of more then 10 games in a year, you're suspended for a couple of games. This would make the managers really think about going to the video review.

This would not slow the game down a lot and it would also help eliminate a lot of human error because everyone makes them, even umps.

As far as the World Series is concerned, I will be watching the game at the Oar House cheering on the Rockies. I'm known for putting some money on a game or two, however I will not this time, as I know (hurts me to say this) Boston will win. (SHUT UP LINCOLN).

If the World Series started three days ago or earlier, I would have picked the Rockies, but a week off is just too long for a team that is riding the biggest high in the world. I hope to be wrong, but I don't think I will be.
