Falcon captains win CCAA honours

After leading the men's soccer team to their first championship appearance in three years, captain Greg Remjin, has ended the season on a high note after having won three awards in November.

Remjin, a third-year business marketing student, was named CCAA soccer Player of the Month, CCAA All-Canadian as well as OCAA Player of The Year, and was on hand in Halifax on November 6 to collect his award at the CCAA All Canadian Awards banquet.

“Greg has had an exceptional year. For an individual to score in each game is remarkable,” said men's team coach, Paul D'Hollander. “And he was selected our team captain which says a lot, what I mean is that he's been the leading scorer for the last three years, he's about team goals.

“Though he's had individual success, that's not what he set out to achieve- he's about team goals. He's a very competitive person and has a very strong work ethic. But he's also very charismatic, he leads by example and plays very hard and he pushes his teammates to the best that they can be.”

Remjin finished the season second in OCCAA scoring, having tallied 11 of the Falcon's 17 goals, which averaged to more than 1.5 goals per game.

Emily Costello, the women's team captain, also won a CCAA All-Canadian award, her second consecutive year having garnered the honour. And where Remjin lead on the score sheet, Costello helped keep the opposing teams off of it, helping to make the team with the divisions fewest goals against, with only a stingy three making it into the net, while scoring an additional three.
