Long-time coach pushes men to own the court

“I expect to win, I always expect to win,” said Fanshawe Falcons head coach Glen Johnston.

With the support of their coach, entering his 30th year as Fanshawe's leader, the Falcon men's basketball team will look to many fresh faces to lead them to the Promised Land.

Returning players that will be counted on to fill key roles include Josh Smith, Pat Sewell, and Dave Brown. First year players looking to fill important roles as well will be Omar Sybbliss, Kbre Hamilton, Pat Wright, Jamal Cornwall, and Bronson Deagle.

Johnston says it is still too early to tell how well his team will fair this season, but said they are working hard and have sufficient talent.

“We're quick, and we're a good shooting team,” said Johnston.

“So far we are pretty careless with the damn ball and we don't like to share it enough, and I don't think we're defensively tough enough, but I'm never happy with that it's just part of my personality.”

Although many new players will play key positions for the Falcons this season, Johnson still remains optimistic.

“I don't think the idea of ‘maybe we can play 50 per cent', then you're quitting on the guys, hell I'm planning on winning something,” said Johnston.

The Fanshawe men will travel to Oshawa for the Durham College Tournament on October 14th and 15th, and will open their regular season on October 22nd at 6:00 p.m. against the Redeemer Royals.
