Dance squad has all the right moves

In it's second of year of entertaining Fanshawe sports fans, the Mighty Falcon Dance Team are stepping it up in 2008.

The 20 dancers are hosting a dinner party to raise funds for team uniforms and upcoming competitions on Friday, January 18 at the Tap House. Because they are recognized as a varsity college team, the dancers must raise the majority of their support through fundraising.

Mighty Falcon coordinator and manager, Rubelyn Ubando, said the team has been supplying the entertainment during breaks of home volleyball and basketball games since September, and they have big plans to get involved in 2008.

“We want to be more involved with the community and charity events,” Ubando, who served as VP of Athletics for the FSU in 2006/07. “We want Fanshawe to know we are out there to help.”

With two routines already in the rotation, and another two in progress, the team practices two days a week in preparation for games and the upcoming Humber Hype Dance Challenge in March in Toronto. The annual competition highlights the best College and University dance teams from around the province and Ubando believes the Fanshawe team has a good chance of placing near the top this year.

Along with the dinner party, the Mighty Falcon Dance Team will also be selling special edition posters in front of the bookstore for $5 starting on Tuesday, January 8. Tickets for the dinner party are available from Ubando at rubando@fanshawec.ca or any of the members of the team. If you are interested in trying out for the team email Ubando or search Facebook for their group.
