At least they're nice to look at

Fool's GoldFool's Gold While Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey's second collaboration, Fool's Gold, is good, it isn't as enjoyable as their first movie together.

Tess Finnegan (Kate Hudson) is dreading having to see her soon-to-be ex husband at their divorce hearing, knowing full well that all of her feelings for him will come rushing back. While their marriage was fun, and exciting in many ways, her ex was unreliable, dishonest and was chasing a dream that he would seemingly never catch.

Meanwhile Tess' ex, Benjamin Finnegan or Finn (Matthew McConaughey), was busy chasing his dream of finding the Queen's Dowry, Spanish treasure that was lost in the early 1700s, when his boat catches fire and sinks to the bottom of the ocean. From the crash of the boat, an old piece of plate is uncovered and floats right into Finn's hands. The detail on the edge of the plate, added with a partial stamp on the back, is the proof that Finn has been waiting for. He believes that the stamp on the plate is the one of the Spanish Royal family, King Phillip, who in 1715 sent a dowry to his future bride, which was lost forever. With his boat sunk at the bottom of the ocean, Finn must answer to Big Bunny (Kevin Hart), who funded his quest.

After an attempted murder and a near escape, Finn shows up late to the divorce hearing, leaving Tess with everything, which is nothing without the boat. Finn, now depressed, turns to alcohol to try to mask his misery of losing his wife and boat in the same day.

After a series of coincidences, Finn and Tess find themselves on the yacht of the wealthy Nigel Honeycutt (Donald Sutherland). With only one chance to save both his dream and his relationship, Finn, along with his wealthy financier and ex, set out in search of the treasure at the bottom of the sea, which will become the greatest adventure they will ever have.

I really enjoyed this movie. While I didn't like it as much as I liked How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), the first movie that Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey did together, I did find Fool's Gold exciting and fresh. Hudson (You, Me and Dupree), and McConaughey (Failure to Launch) have such great chemistry together. It was a nice change, not to have the entire movie about two people falling in love, instead Fool's Gold was more about them trying not to kill each other, now that they are forced to work as a team.

The supporting characters were also great. With big actors, like Donald Sutherland (Reign Over Me) as the father and Ray Winstone (Beowulf) as the mentor, along side Alexis Dziena, Ewen Bremner, Kevin Hart, and Malcolm-Jamal Warner, this movie shined from every angle.

Overall, Fool's Gold was fun, exciting, and a refreshing change to the classic romantic comedy. I recommend this movie to anyone who liked How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and females and males alike.

Final Words: Saw it. Liked it. Kate and Matthew would make the most beautiful couple ever!
