There is no way Semi-Pro will make it to the majors

Semi-Pro

Dribble, pass, shoot! This underdog basketball movie is slightly disappointing, with Will Ferrell being it's only asset.

Former one-hit “Love Me Sexy” wonder Jackie Moon (Will Ferrell) is the owner, coach and “star” player of the Flint Michigan Tropics ABA (American Basketball Association) team. During a meeting with all of the owners of teams in the ABA, it is announced that four teams from the ABA will be inducted into the NBA, and the rest of the ABA teams will cease to exist, due to a lack of popularity. It is decided that at the end of the season, the four best teams will make the transition.

Even though the Tropics rarely ever win a game, Jackie is determined to make it into the top four. He makes a bold move, and trades the teams washing machine for Monix (Woody Harrelson), a has-been player from the NBA. Along side the rest of the Tropics players, including Clarence “Coffee” Black (André Benjamin), they do there best to fight to the top. With Monix taking over coaching and Jackie promoting the games, the Tropics might just have a chance at the big league.

Semi-Pro was good, but it was also disappointing. While parts of the movie were funny, other parts felt dry, like they were trying too hard to be funny. It was kind of strange and repetitive at times too. Without a doubt, the movie would have been nothing without Will Ferrell (Blades of Glory). He is just a naturally funny person. I have liked every movie I have seen him in to date. Will Arnett (Hot Rod), a fellow Canadian, was also very funny in this movie as a sports caster. He has that deep voice and is very sarcastic. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes Will Ferrell, and doesn't mind him being the best part about a movie.

Final Words: Saw it. Liked it. The scene with the bear was classic Will Ferrell.
