Fawcett can still flaunt it at 60

We all have seen the Charlie's Angels movies starring Cameron Diaz, Lucy Lui and Drew Barrymore. But before the hit movies there was the original “Charlie's Angels,” a 1970s hit TV show, broke many barriers for women, both in society and in fashion.

The Angels brought in a huge fashion change for women to start dressing in a casual manner. The girls regularly wore high-waisted, wide legged, bell-bottom jeans, which defined the denim styles of the ‘70s. Tailored clothing reflecting men's wear, no bra and hair styled down, were also amongst the fashion trends the television show “Charlie's Angels” brought into everyone's living rooms.

The character Jill Monroe, played by Farrah Fawcett, was the ultimate ‘70s sex symbol. To compare Fawcett to a TV actress in our day, she was the Jennifer Aniston of television. Fawcett started her career by being the stunning face of toothpaste commercials. Guys wanted to be with her and girls wanted to be her, and especially to have her iconic hair.

“The Farrah”, or “The feather layers” was the most poplar hairstyle of the ‘70s, all thanks to Fawcett sporting it in the first season of “Charlie's Angels.” To get this desired look, it took a lot of patience and time. It was said to get that perfect look, Fawcett slept with rollers in her hair most nights before shooting. First you would have to get your hair cut with the specific layers around your face. Hot rollers, curling iron, moose and hair spray were the essential ingredients for this look to stay. From watching (and owning) the ‘70s television series, it's very tempting to want to copy Fawcett‘s gorgeous hair.

Another place where Fawcett's image may seem familiar is highly circulated poster in the 1970s, in which the actress wore her signature hair and a one-piece red bathing suit. It was said that she was a very modest women and insisted on the one-piece bathing suit. That poster made it on every boy's wall. It even can be spotted on Eric Forman's wall in the television show “That 70's Show,” along with Eric's sister sporting Fawcett do.

Despite her beauty and success, Fawcett‘s personal life wasn't as picture perfect. She married young to famous male actor Lee Majors and it was rumoured he abused her and she was seen numerous times with bruises and acting distraught. While filming “Charlie's Angels”, it has been rumoured that Majors demanded she be home by 6 p.m. each night so she could have dinner ready when he got home. The couple later broke up after nine years of marriage.

Fawcett also has a terrible fear of public speaking. She has had that noticeable fear since the beginning of her career and has never been able to shake it. An example of her trouble is an interview on Letterman in 1997 when she shocked everyone when she posed for Playboy at age 50. For someone who was so concerned with not showing her midriff in the ‘70s, a lot of people questioned why she was willing to bear all later in life.

In 2006 Fawcett was diagnosed with a rare form of anal cancer. Although she fought the deadly disease, it recently returned.

On a lighter note, Fawcett still has a career worth being proud of. With 18 successful movies, over 30 TV appearances, a son by on-and-off boyfriend Ryan O'Neal, Fawcett continues to fight hard with her career and current cancer battle.
