Teen chick flick fails to impress

Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2

While this sequel is enjoyable, and light hearted, it just isn't as good as the original movie in the series.

Three years later, these four inseparable friends, even when they are miles apart, have ventured into a new phase in their lives, college. All four friends are at different schools and are pursuing very different careers.

Tibby (Amber Tamblyn), the filmmaker, is living in New York City, working at a video store and dating Brian McBrian (Leonardo Nam), Dragon Slayer champion from the first movie.

Lena (Alexis Bledel) is at an art school, taking a special drawing course for the summer, and has unfortunately ended her relationship with Kostos (Michael Rady).

Carmen (America Ferrera) is working as a stagehand for plays, and is spending the summer working on her acting skills.

Finally, Bridget (Blake Lively) is attending a special archaeological camp and is devastated to discover that the grandmother she always thought hated her feels quite the opposite.

Once again, with the girls all in different places, they share a pair of pants, that magically fits all of them. This time around the pants see the girls through a pregnancy scare, a new love, facing fears, and coming to terms with ones demons, all the while trying to hold struggling friendships together.

This movie was quite enjoyable, however, it was not as good as the original Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I think that this is due to the fact that we already know the characters, and feel like we have been through so much with them. This movie is comfortable because we have the basis of who these girls are already, and now we get to grow with them, through the trials and tribulations of the college years. Even though this movie is missing that rush of getting to know a character, and all of the surprises to follow, it was still a good movie.

All four actresses did a great job with this movie. Tamblyn, with all of her sarcasm, warms up a little in this movie, which is nice to see. Bledel is as quiet, and meek as ever, but it's cute, and not in the least bit annoying. Ferrera, while feisty in the first movie, wasn't as fun to watch, and at times, I wanted to shake some sense into her. Lively, who is beautiful, stood out the most in this movie. Aside from her looks, she is a very talented actress, diverse, funny and wild. She was a lot of fun to watch. One thing about this movie that I really liked was that they kept the same personalities, but allowed for the growth that would naturally occur as one grows up.

I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoyed the first movie or likes easy-going, fun movies.

Final Words: Saw it. Liked it. Interesting fact - The actor who plays Blake Lively's father in both movies, is her real father, Ernie Lively.
