Finding and sharing my style

Hello again long-time readers, friends and enemies.

I am back again for my second year writing mostly fashion for the entertainment section of the Interrobang. I am also in my second year at Fanshawe for the Fashion Merchandising program. I have waited in line for five hours to hug and get a book signed from Victoria Beckham, so I guess that makes me qualified enough to write this column.

I believe everyone has a good fashion story and/or advice to share with each other, even I am not your average stereotype fashion gal. For example, I don't like Vogue magazine, prefer Glamour and Harper's Bazaar. I find Vogue has rather dull and long essays/ articles. I don't watch TV shows such as “The Hills” or “Gossip Girl,” instead I prefer my beloved “The Office” any day. I also think paying over $200 on anything is ridiculous, but think fashion designers are pure geniuses. I feel wearing high heels quite scary and uncomfortable, like what if you need to break out in a sprint or something? I am also the type of lady who prefers Winners over Guess. Even though I must say Guess does have great jeans!

The point I am trying to get across is I am a different kind of fashion lover. I believe I understand the true ART of fashion. The genius behind the photograph, the story presentation of editorials in fashion magazines and the history of fashion is fascinating, and seem to promote a never ending discussion. Plus I think I can coordinate an outfit pretty darn well!

I also believe everyone should know the difference between the definitions of “style” and “fashion.”

Fashion “is a style that is accepted and used by the majority of group at any one time,” while style “is the characteristics or distinctive appearance of a garment, the combination of features that make it different from other garments” according to The Dynamics of Fashion by Elaine Stone.

Since my last article in early April 2008, I've traveled to Europe, seen loads of movies, acquired a retail job, shopped in different local cities and read too many magazines. So I am beyond loaded with information to share with readers.
