Students shined in donations

Shinerama, which took over Fanshawe during Orientation, is a National Fundraising event that helps raise money for Cystic Fibrosis.

Ross Mackenzie and Marie- Lynne Birks know all too well how hard it is to organize such an event. This was the duo's first major fundraising event that took most of their summer to plan.

The events took place on September 4 to 6 and although the anticipated and hoped for $10,000 was not met, an impressive $7,000 was raised towards helping fight Cystic Fibrosis.

“We had a great time trying,” said Mackenzie, about organizing the event.

“The only thing we were unhappy with was the lack of volunteer turnout, but not wanting to be negative we'd would like to thank the people that did come out to volunteer on the Friday and Saturday shine days. Next year we plan to hold the Saturday Shine Day later in the day to get more volunteers to come out.”

In 2007, 35,000 student volunteers from over 60 communities participated in Shinerama to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis.
