Mentoring For Success receives top marks

Mentoring For Success is a volunteer program that matches current students and recent grads with Fanshawe Alumni in six-month mentoring partnerships. It is an opportunity for participants to build their professional network, develop their résumé and learn more about their chosen career field through personal, email or phone contact. Enroll at anytime — visit www.mentoringforsuccess.ca

Mentoring For Success entered its fourth year at Fanshawe College with a renewed sense of enthusiasm this September. Over the summer months, program staff surveyed current and past participants using the online tool available at SurveyMonkey.com. By all accounts, Mentoring For Success has achieved its goals of providing a rewarding mentoring experience to students and graduates.

Listed here are some of the program's achievements:

- A combined 78.2 per cent of participants believe they had a perfect or near perfect match with their partner.

- 62.5 per cent of participants realized their personal goals through the program. Goals ranged from job shadowing, selecting their next program of study, networking, getting information about the job market, practicing their English conversational skills, etc.

- 79 per cent of participants thought that the program was a good use of their time.

- The majority of participants that had attended one of our events enjoyed the speaker, the chance to meet in-person with their mentoring partner and the food.

- More than 90 per cent of respondents believed they were receiving adequate support from the Program Coordinator. Mentoring For Success looks to build on this solid foundation it has established in its first three years. Our goal is to make 65+ mentoring partnership matches between September 2008 and April 2009. We are working on a new look to our website — www.mentoringforsuccess.ca — and we have established a group on Facebook. Finally, we are hosting an exciting calendar of events that are FREE to anyone registered with our program.
