Around the Ring: TNA and WWE storylines pique interest

What an interesting week in wrestling. A few key developments happened that could affect both TNA and WWE.

On the TNA side of things, Scott Steiner has joined the Main Event Mafia. While I'm not a big Steiner fan (I actually would be overjoyed if someone could guarantee me that he'd never be on TV again), but I think his heel persona could really work for the group and actually convince people that they shouldn't cheer for these guys. Kurt Angle is the only one that I actually think is still decent in the group.

The storyline revolving around the younger generation vs. this older generation seems to be quite fascinating and there are still many players that haven't chosen a side yet…especially in the tag team division. Let's hope that TNA and Vince Russo don't mess this one up.

On WWE's side, I'm overjoyed about a few things that were done during the three hour Raw. Firstly (and probably most obviously from my ranting last week) I am so f'n happy that Chris Jericho won the World Title back. I had no idea that they would actually put the belt back on him but I think this is the best decision. Jericho has been gold this year and one of WWE's best players.

The returning John Cena now gets a championship match against Jericho at Survivor Series for some reason and it makes me wonder: if Cena isn't back until Survivor Series, how are they going to build the match and make people care? The answer may lie with Batista getting involved and turning the match into a triple threat. Mike Adamle turned in his “resignation” as Raw's GM. Thank goodness. Adamle was one of the worst people put on WWE television and that's saying a mouthful. Who is going to be his successor? Well, from what was hinted this week, we may see a McMahon struggle for the Raw brand. I think this angle with Shane and Stephanie playing their power cards and making alliances could create some good entertainment and make some cool alliances, feuds and storylines. Once again, let's hope the writers don't mess this up.

How in the hell did Mae Young clear the ring of all the Divas only to prove that she shouldn't be in the ring by falling on her ass? Please, WWE, watch TNA's Knockout division to see how women's wrestling should be done (while maintaining the hotness).

Smackdown on Friday hasn't aired as of the time of writing this, but don't be surprised to see Kozlov beat The Undertaker with outside interference (that's unintentional on his part) to get his shot at Triple H at Survivor Series. I would still like Jeff Hardy vs. HHH part three to have Hardy come out as champ. Maybe we'll see this, if he doesn't mess up at the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 25.
