Around the Ring: Survivor Series a dud

Well, a really crappy Survivor Series has come and gone and we have two new champions. I'm really surprised that they let John Cena pin Chris Jericho considering Jericho had Cena in submission moves for over half the match! I'm glad that they're actually going to build the next Jericho/Cena match for the next PPV. The promo those two had on Monday night was pretty good, although I can't stand when Cena stands up for the fans. He just sounds like a chump.

I also can't believe WWE made up that false story about Jeff Hardy being attacked just so Edge could waltz into the (now one on one) championship match to win the belt. Weren't Edge and Vicki Guerrero on the fritz? Wasn't Hardy too injured to wrestle? I suppose someone too injured to wrestle has no problem running full speed to just to swing chairs and get speared.

To go along with this issue's theme: here are 10 of my favourite wrestlers:

10. Demolition — I know they're a tag team but these guys were always two of the coolest in the 80s. They started going downhill when Crush joined the group but I'll always have my memories of them beating up the Hart Foundation.

9. Shawn Michaels — I can't stand him on one level (all the stories and dealings he's been involved in behind the scenes) but on another level, he's gained enough respect from me for his ring work that even I can't argue enough to keep him off my list.

8. The Ultimate Warrior — Yep, he's been a jerk in real life like HBK, but I don't think I can ever get the nostalgic joy of watching him in the ring...even if most of his matches were less than three minutes.

7. Stone Cold Steve Austin — I can stand him on the mic for about five minutes and don't mind many of his matches, but there's something magical about watching Stone Cold in or out of the ring. He's had some of the best vignettes and stories ever in wrestling.

6. Bret Hart — (One of) the best there is, (one of) the best there was and one of the best there ever will be.

5. Kurt Angle — He's worked hard to gain people's respect over the years although he's been a heel most of his career. Too bad Vince McMahon let him get away.

4. Jeff Hardy — Yes, I know that he's made mistakes but there's very rarely a dull Jeff Hardy match — with or without the high spots.

3. Edge — He's one of the best heels ever and he's also had some of the coolest gimmicks: Edge and Christian's five second pose, one of the Brood, a “Rated-R” superstar.

2. HHH — If someone can make me despise them so much at key points in their careers while still enjoying the character (and knowing it's all an act), then you have one of the best ever.

1. Mick Foley — Call him a glorified stuntman, non-athletic, I still think he's had some of the most memorable matches (wrestling or not) over the years and is always good on the mic. Cheers, Mick!
