Around the Ring: HBK beats Cena graying angle

TNA...(shakes head), TNA, you poor bastards. Not only did you have a subpar card going into your first PPV of the year, I don't think you could ask for more to go wrong during the show.

Now that I gave my sympathies to TNA, if you didn't see the PPV, I'll let you know a few things that went down, and most aren't for the better.

Not only did Kevin Nash not wrestle in the main event (due to a staph infection), his replacement was the sub par Kip James (aka Billy Gunn/Mr. Ass). It was actually quite amusing to see Booker T and Kip both on the mic before the match explaining why Kip was a great and suitable replacement. Ugh. Add Scott Steiner to the mix and you had a match with heels most people don't care about.

During the main event, the MEM got disqualified but Jim Cornett came out to say that he wasn't letting the match end like that. All of a sudden Booker T said that he didn't have the authority to restart the match. WHAT? Cornett doesn't? If that wasn't dumb, Mick Foley confirmed that Cornett had no power but as a main shareholder of the company, Mick HAS the power to restart matches! DOES THIS MAKE SENSE? Ugh...2009 is off to an awful start for the company.

Let's not forget Christy Hemme couldn't wrestle due to an injury and a craptacular three on three woman's match occurred and Sting barely could wrestle Rhino because of his knee (I'm not even getting into the whole Rhino injury angle that started the whole PPV).

I will say the Kurt Angle versus Jeff Jarrett match was the best of the night. There were some decent and bloody spots (although some spots that were really botched) that kept many entertained. As predicted, Angle won so TNA can set up the third and final match somewhere down the line between these two.

On the WWE side of things, I can't believe that the company is trying to push another potential injury angle featuring Jeff Hardy. According to the company, Hardy was involved in a hit and run that almost injured him and his girlfriend. Boy, I hope Christian gets major heat from the crowd to make WWE justify these “news stories.”

Raw was a pretty great show on Monday. The surprise confrontation between Stephanie McMahon and Chris Jericho, right, was great, especially with the shocker of Jericho being fired and escorted out of the building. Too bad that when Michael Cole announced Raw superstars that would be in the Rumble, he said Jericho! Actually Cole was off the mark all night with his commentary.

HBK versus John Cena was a great match. It started off a little slow but allowing HBK to go over on Cena brings up many questions as to where this whole JBL/HBK/Cena angle will go. Will JBL pick up the win at the Rumble and lead to a HBK/JBL championship match at Wrestlemania? Time will tell.

Next week, Vince McMahon comes back and don't be surprised to see some major angles get tweaked or start (not to mention Jericho being allowed back in the company). I already can't wait until next Monday night.
