Adverse effects of abortion not medically proven

Nathaniel Welch spreads his misguided information concerning abortion by referring to the mythical “post abortion depression”, the association between Breast Cancer and abortion, and of course the infamous “(clinically documented) feelings of guilt and lament.”

Let's get some facts straight. Before you can write anything and claim that it is “proven,” you must first research your material. Claims linking abortion and breast cancer are ignorant of available scientific evidence. Several organizations, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI), have refuted the reliability of such an association((NCI, 2003).

Naturally, your theories have not been attained by research. The link between induced abortion and breast cancer is a theory whose principal promoters oppose abortion regardless of its effect on the woman concerned. The same goes for the fictional "post-abortion trauma" or "post-abortion syndrome." These myths were borne of lies deliberately created and spread (foremost) by right-wing Christian Fundamentalists. Neither the American Psychological Association nor the American Psychiatric Association recognizes the existence of these phenomena.

“(Clinically documented) feelings of guilt and lament?” Of course girls feel guilty after an abortion. As much as you try, you cannot avoid hearing that it is “immoral” or “dangerous”.

Girls of Fanshawe College, this is important for you, don't shrug this off. If you are pregnant and you don't want to have children, please research the facts behind abortion NOW. If you are not pregnant but are having a healthy amount of sex with one, two or FIFTY partners, this is OK! It's your body. However, don't wait until you are pregnant to look up the FACTS about abortion, do it today. And in the meantime, have fun but practice safe sex.
