VJ hopeful ready to rock the final four

It's go-time for University of Western student and MuchMusic VJ-hopeful, Liz Trinnear. She beat out 4,000 applicants and is arms-length away from holding that coveted gig in her hands.

“Every time I get closer, I get more and more excited,” she said.

The contestants were all brought on Much on Demand last Monday, and each pulled up in front of the cameras individually to find out their fate. As Trinnear watched as fellower Londoner, Kelly Peter, go up and not get chosen — “I was so bummed Kelly didn't go through” — she felt more nervous.

Londoner Liz Trinnear has made it to the final four of MuchMusic's VJ search competition.“When you're there, you're under pressure,” she said.

But rather than treat it as a life or death situation, Trinnear had other concerns.

“I was more overwhelmed with not sweating through my shirt under those hot lights,” she said. “When you're in that heat of the moment…you think about the awkward things…to calm your body down.”

Trinnear's candidness no doubt has earned her this top spot. Unpretentious and easily relatable — come on, more than a few people would be concerned about possible perspiration on national television — her attitude during the competition has been about being herself and “just having fun.”

But of course, the competition is also hard work. After weeks of challenges, recruiting thousands of fans via online social networking and securing votes, her biggest challenges are still ahead.

After getting the final four announcement, Trinnear, 21, spent time in Toronto working alongside other finalist, Richmond Hill's Laith Hakeem, to produce their own news spot which was shown Friday on MuchMusic.

This week she'll be back in Toronto with the other contestants appearing every day on MOD to show Canadian viewers she has what it takes to be their next VJ. The final reveal will be on Friday, December 4.

Now this far into the competition, it's time to shift gears. It started with a focus on contestants' personalities and quirky videos, but now it's all about who's got the skills to get the job done.

“At this point in the game, it's about how well we do on our tasks, (MuchMusic's) not comparing us to each other because we're all so different,” she said.

“I'm ready and pumped for it.”
