Fun and Fitness: Fitness Centre offers programs for anyone getting into shape

As expected, the Fitness Centre is booming with consistent traffic for obvious reasons. People are three weeks deep into their New Year's resolutions to get fit. However, many people are asking about ways to mix things up to maintain their motivation. The beautiful part is there are many ways to go about it. If you haven't considered aerobics, you need not look anywhere else if you want to push yourself in a number of different ways.

Our aerobics classes are very popular with the student and faculty populations. Each semester, we do our very best to rearrange as well as implement new classes based on member feedback. The following classes are just a few of the official January-May offering.

Muscles in Motion — Muscle strength and endurance utilizing a variety of equipment.

Abs + Back — Improving strength, endurance, and overall balance of abs and back.

Stretch — Stretching to improve range of motion and overall quality of life.

Spinning — 14 adjustable bikes to feel the Tour de France rush! (sign up day of class).

Pilates - Strengthening and stretching exercises in a balanced sequence.

Cardio Kickbox — Combined boxing techniques and cardio combinations.

3D Workout - Unique three dimensional strength and balance movements.

Awesome Intervals - Intense cardio combinations in interval methods.

Boot Camp - Alternating cardio and resistance exercises in circuit format.

Zumba — Follows Latin rhythms to create a dynamic fitness program!

Total Muscle — Variety of muscular strength and endurance exercises.

Yoga — Mind and body class utilizing focused breathing and concentration.

Hip Hop — A fun upbeat way of getting your blood flowing and heart pumping!

As you can see, there are a broad range of classes to suit different personalities and tastes. We also sometimes hold specialty classes such as, Latin dancing and seductive dance. Three of the listed classes (yoga, pilates, 3D workout) are seven week collective sessions. That means they are sign up on a first come first serve basis; once you're in, you're in for the seven week ride much like a classroom setting where you and your classmates progress together. For any guys “too cool” for aerobics classes, you fellas may want to rethink your strategy. I have taught the abs and back class and believe me, aerobics are a great way for you guys to stay lean and meet a ridiculous amount of ladies!

The aerobics classes vary throughout the week as we try our best to accommodate a wide variety of timeslots for members. Your best bet is to come by and grab a schedule to see what classes fall on what dates and times. Better yet, come get your membership for the rest of the semester and get your ass in gear now!
