The Sault St. Marie 2010 Ontario Colleges Athletic Curling Championships saw Fanshawe's men curlers win bronze.

Hosted by Sault College and Algoma University, curlers spent an exhausting five days in the Soo wowing their fans and setting a high precedent for curling at Fanshawe. Fanshawe has not had a curling team in over 20 years.

“Last weekend was a great start for the sport of curling at Fanshawe... finishing third was a great accomplishment and we look to build on that result next year,” said Chris Jay, a skip for the men's curling team.

“Playing this year I made lifelong friends with my teammates and experiences that will never be forgotten.”

Women curlers placed fourth at the championships.

Twenty-one teams competed for the ultimate title in men's, women's and mixed divisions from all across Ontario.

Mike Lindsay, manager of athletics boasted about how extremely proud he is of Fanshawe curlers, and the coaches and players approach at the championship.

All teams trained extremely hard prior to the championships in order to make it on the ice as early as 7 a.m. and worked all day, noted Lindsay.

All curlers put “a real great effort” at the championship, he added.

Fans were treated to competitive curling action played by the best college curlers the province has to offer.

Lindsay noted he is especially impressed with all the curlers' academic standings and credits the academic support of the college for aiding the athletes in the proper direction.

“Academic (support) is simply sensational,” he said.

Coaching primarily the women's curling team, Harold Arnett, curling coach, noted how both sides played very well and he is very much looking forward to coaching again next season.

Lindsay would like to see more participants get involved with the sport of curling and be part of a great team at Fanshawe next season.

The teams that dominated the ice in the Soo were Fleming and Niagara who respectively took home first and second places at the tournament.
