Hot Tub provides laughs
Maybe it is because I went into the film with very low expectations, or I expected the film to be horrible, but Hot Tub Time Machine was a pleasant surprise. The movie's title is only descriptive of how the four gentlemen go back in time, but what actually happens when they arrive in the 80s is a whole other story.
The foursome includes John
Cusack as Adam, Clark Duke as
Jacob, Craig Robinson as Nick,
and Rob Corddry as Lou. The
hilarious group makes a decision to
take a road trip back to a ski resort
they enjoyed in their youth.
They're excitement is quickly
extinguished when they arrive to
find the ski-town boarded up and
run-down. After getting over the
initial disappointment, the group
gets down to business in their hotel
room and start to party like they're
in the 80s.
The wild night of drugs and
alcohol leave the guys with an
extreme hangover the next morning
and a lot more confusion to
come at them. Once they realize
that they've somehow gone back in
time and traced the time travel to
their night in the hot tub, they realize
that they must re-live a crazy
weekend from their past without
changing the course of history. Sounds a lot easier than it is.
The situation makes for a perfect
comedy full of crude humour,
teenage heartbreak and wild times.
The guys challenge themselves to
live through the weekend again,
even though they know there are
great high points and pretty low
points throughout the radical
weekend. Hot Tub Time Machine is
great entertainment, different than
a lot of comedies out there right
now and even begs the serious
question of; if you could do it all
over again, would you do it differently?
