From nearly 100 ballots, firstyear student Jon Pilon won an Apple iPad as part of the MyFanshawe feedback contest this summer.

Students were asked to weigh in on the preliminary phase of the online student portal, which is now available to all Fanshawe students. Their name would then be entered into the draw for Apple's newest gadget.

Already an Apple fan, Pilon was helping relatives build a fence when he got the message on Wednesday, June 30 that he had won.

“At first I thought it was a spam message … like the generic ones that say ‘Congratulations, you're a winner' — until I saw the Fanshawe College name in the email,” he said.

The computer systems technology student picked up his iPad the same day the result was announced.

“I couldn't believe it,” he said. “I knew there was a contest to win an iPad, and I'll admit that was part of my motivation for giving feedback, but I never expected I would be the one to win it.”

Pilon comes from a family of Apple-lovers.

“Everyone in my family uses Apple computers, including my 80-year-old grandmother who just started using a computer two years ago.”
